God Delusion by Richard Dawkins

After reading many history and evolution books, I understood that our ancestors invited God. Our ancestors were puzzled by the randomness of nature; they concluded that they had been observed by supernatural entities. Thus, they brought the rituals and code among the tribe to worship the supernatural entity, save them from rains, save their crops, and give them prosperity and good health.

This unified the tribe; group cohesion was increased, and rituals brought contentment to people. Also, rules prevented people from stealing from each other, putting a stop to their desires and urges. Those who break the rules would face the wrath of supernatural entities.

Religions were formed. Heroic stories of gods were passed down to generations. Temples were built and scriptures were written for educating people. Answers for eternal questions like what’s the purpose of life, who we are, and what we should do are offered to people through sayings.

I know it’s a reductionist way to look at their things. Rituals could be meaningful to people who are doing them. Also, following Religious principles could bring happiness and discipline to devotees. At the end of the day, it’s an individual choice whether to believe or not.
