Interestingly, a book about attention didn’t hold my attention at all. I thought the problem was with me, as I read a half dozen books on attention and focus, but the more I read this book, the more I understood that it lacks cohesiveness and is written with a casual tone.
The introduction was amazing; it sets up everything you are going to read in the book. I honestly expected it to deliver what it promised. The author talked about types of attention, how to find the rhythm, the effects of multitasking and personality types, and their attention behavior.
I find the last one interesting, but reading the book felt like reading a long blog post. The feeling of ‘why am I reading this’ kept compounding as I went on reading. I don’t know whether it is the author’s conscious attempt to test the readers’ patience; certainly, I would have removed many sentences to make it tight and engaging to read.
If you are a beginner and have the temperament to read one book for a long time, you like the book. I will recommend Stolen Focus and Deep Work over this.
