We have been bombarded with messages like we need to push ourselves too hard to achieve what we want, we need to hustle, we need to be uberproductive and need to make endless to-do lists, and we also need to sacrifice sleep and relationships for accomplishing higher goals. But the question is, are we living the life that gives us happiness and satisfaction? To be precise, are we grounded?

We are stressed in our lives without the connection to the ground, the reality. We refuse to accept the reality; we make huge plans and set out to heroically fashion. But when problems arise, we get anxious and stressed. The situations overwhelm us. That is why accepting our reality and understanding what you can do about it keeps you on the path of living a fulfilling life.

Now, more than ever, it is important to be ‘present.’ There are so many things on our plates. So many things demand our attention, like social media or emails from work. Multitasking may seem to work, but you don’t experience anything; you don’t feel like you are fully involved in the work you are doing.

Teachings in the book have helped me get a perspective of the situation I am in right now. Especially the second chapter on Acceptance. Truth has to be told: Heroic Individualism may have a hold on me; I am never satisfied with the work I do no matter how perfect it is. But now I understand, I am not grounded.

The book’s contents aren’t limited to acceptance and presence; it has a lot to offer. I liked reading this book. I recommend this to everyone. I think everyone, these days, suffers from heroic individualism. This book surely helps in that regard.
