We mindlessly consume so much information these days. We watch endless videos on YouTube, read several articles, and listen to audiobooks and podcasts, but we hardly take any notes. Although some insights stay with us, we forget most of the useful information.
Rather than passively consuming the information, we must take notes and store the data somewhere. So that we can retrieve the data whenever we want to. But taking notes feels like work; we behave as if we remember everything we read. We are even too lazy to write down our ideas.
What we are lacking is a second brain. A system we build that stores the data, organizes the information into categories, and helps us in our creative journeys. Taking notes is not new to us; we fail to organize and boil down the information to its essence. Unless we painstakingly go through these steps, we can never bring order to our notes.
Building the Second Brain is a useful book. But the thing I dislike about reading it is it feels like reading a long blog post rather than a book. Writing is the main issue. You can skip the first 50 pages and get right into the stuff. Other than that, I have no complaints. I recommend this to everyone.
