Negative emotions such as sadness and sorrow are less appreciated in our times. We always try to be in a positive mood. If you aren’t smiling brightly, then there is something wrong with you. People could go on to say that you are depressed. The desire to be positive is killing us silently.

You might have heard that creative people are cracks, or to put it more simply, they are sad and have mood swings. Although it might not be true for every creative individual, most would go through phases of sadness and longing. To be creative is to tap into our sadness and longings. But why?

Even though we are living in rich times and have everything at our fingertips, we get a sense that something is missing. We crave more, but we don’t know what we are craving. We yearn for home, we yearn for beauty, and we yearn for things that don’t exist at all. It’s a fundamental human state, and there is nothing wrong with us.

Our yearnings and sadness can be put to creative use. They have energy, which we could use as fuel to propel our creative endeavors. Reading this book is nothing but validation for my longing. I felt human. I recommend this book if you want to know how to use your sadness.
