Our ancestors used to have multiple sensual partners throughout their lives. As there was no marriage system at that time, everybody had the freedom to have sex with anyone he/she wanted within the tribe or often with members of different tribes. This sums up the essence of the book.
Sex at Dawn is the most biased book I have ever read in my life. The authors made constant attempts to prove that humans who had sex freely with anyone were happy, fearless, and had an abundance of food. But as you could guess by now, information was cherry-picked and sugarcoated to fit the narrative.
At first, till 40 or 50 pages, it seemed promising, but there is little evidence to prove what the authors had stated. Monogamy is new for humans, but saying we would be happy if we had multiple partners doesn’t seem right, and there is no or less evidence. Not only that, there is more.
The authors mentioned that many men are unhappy in marriages because there are drops in testosterone hormone as marriages progress (or as men age). If we were to go by this fact, all men would be unhappy in marriages. It is said in the context that marriages make men unhappy.
You might think, what about women then? Authors said that women go through sensual malleability (because of social constructs) and they are okay with one partner. To put it simply, marriage is bad for humans.
The contents of the book are rejected in most scientific communities. The reason why this book is widely known is because of the bold statements it had, but they are not backed by science. Read this at your own risk.
