Calling Bullshit by Carl Bergstrom and Jevin D. West

The modern world is full of bullshit. You have to search where it is not. With the rise of social media and attention-seeking news channels, it is abundantly clear that we shouldn’t blindly believe what we are seeing and hearing every day, especially regarding Donald Trump. Half the time, he doesn’t know what he is saying. That’s a different topic for another day.

There is so much data but less scrutiny and criticism. We all know correlation doesn’t mean causation but merely an association between two variables; also, one doesn’t necessarily cause the other, and vice versa. We are so busy that we hardly question what we read and hear. Because research is a pain in *somewhere*. Why go through the hard stuff when there is a lie that engages us?

We shouldn’t forget that humans have biases. Oftentimes, personal motives and notions override meaningful work. But when you see bullshit, you should call it out without fear. Dissent is essential for democracy. Voicing out brings change. Search for the Deloitte audit report in Australia. That’s your homework today.

Calling Bullshit is an incredible read. I absolutely loved it. As an analyst myself, I found useful insights. Everyone should read it. I highly recommend it.
