We are living in a fast-paced world; things have to happen at a swift speed. We cram up our days with meaningless tasks, and when we finish them, we feel productive. But while we are lying on the bed, we get a sense that the day isn’t complete. That is because we are not paying attention to the things we do.
We jump from one thing to another. There won’t be a minute to breathe. We are doing things mechanically, like a robot where tasks would come in on a conveyor belt, and we finish one task after another. We think by doing things swiftly, we would have leisure time. But no, things would come endlessly.
That is why we need to develop stillness in our lives. The ability to slow down and think clearly. Instead of paying attention to everything, we deliberately limit our inputs and let things come to us. By that, we know what things are worth our attention. When we get to know our things, we have to be present and do the work attentively.
Stillness is not easy to cultivate, especially in the hurried world we live in. But we can try. I reread the book. This is the first one I read of Ryan Holiday’s. Anyone who has been following me for a while knows what I think of the book. I will share my thoughts in the overview. I recommend this book if you want to develop stillness in your life.
