Quit by Annie Duke

Popular advice is, if you persist, you will get successful. But that’s not always the case. More often than that, quitting things you started helps you get closer to the goals you set by presenting more opportunities. Most people don’t quit despite there being clear signs that their endeavors are not fruitful. Why so?

There are so many reasons: sunk cost, endowment effect, identity, status quo biases, and a few more. But most people are afraid to quit because they are concerned about what others think of them. They don’t want to be perceived as someone inconsistent and cowardly enough to do hard work.

As the author mentioned in the book, quitting is the same decision as staying in the work. Contrary to popular advice (losers quit, winners persist), the book has talked about the upsides of quitting and looking for better opportunities than staying on the same course. The author also talked about why quitting at the right time feels like quitting early.

The author explained the contents through real-life examples. At first, I thought they were long, but it is necessary to explain them at length since we need to grasp the concepts thoroughly. Overall, it’s an interesting read. I recommend this to everyone since we don’t know when and how to quit.
