Productivity is more important to humans now than ever in the history of human evolution. We all bought the idea that we should use our time productively and shouldn’t waste it. We began to use techniques and methods that help us optimize the time; they help us, but at what cost?
We may become efficient in tasks we are doing, but we forget a fundamental fact: we are subjective beings. Although we force ourselves to be objective, it drains our energy, thus making life lackluster. But still, we wouldn’t stop till we burn out and something happens.
Books like these sell like hotcakes, not because they are info-dense and rich in content. But because they are simple, have surface-level content, and don’t take much time to complete. Although the contents of the book go against human nature, we try to implement them anyway.
I don’t understand why people make to-do lists for the whole day and complete the tasks by 4 and start wondering how they can make their day more productive. Yes, we should be doing meaningful work but not at the cost of exhausting the soul.
