Power Women by Venu Agrahari

Politics are mostly dominated by men. It wouldn’t be an easy journey for a woman to climb up the ladder and become successful in the political arena; she has to be determined and dedicated. She has to face many insults and verbal attacks. Though they are born in socio-centric societies, India has seen many powerful women in politics. The Power Women book talks about them.

Power Women is a collection of brief biographies about 16 successful female politicians, starting from Indira Gandhi to Nirmala Sitaraman. What I liked about this woman is that, normally, authors tend to avoid controversial aspects of famous personalities, but Venu Agrahari included the negative side of them along with their political achievements.

I liked knowing about Poolan Devi, a bandit queen who became a politician. She had been through multiple sexual assaults in her life, but she killed people who had done atrocities on her and later surrendered to police. After serving in politics for a brief period, she was assassinated.

What surprised me is the flow of writing; I didn’t get bored while reading, and it’s enjoyable. I highly recommend this if you want to know about the powerful female politicians of India.
