I am always fascinated to know how we learn. Although I have read a few books on the brain and its functions, I have never read specifically a book on learning. Somehow, I happened to purchase this book.
It is safe to say that humans have advantages over other animals because we can learn. We can adapt to a new environment and survive. But it is unlikely the case with animals; they come with a fixed set of instructions or behaviors.
First of all, we need to understand, what’s the meaning of learning? Learning is grasping a fragment of reality, catching it, and bringing it inside our brains.
In other words, learning is the forming of internal modes of the external world. It is through learning that raw data presented is turned into refined ideas for reuse in a different context.
But these internal models have parameters. The parameters get adjusted when we face new information, advancing the existing internal model. Also, without internal models, raw inputs remain meaningless.
I only read 48 pages of the book, and I am loving it so far. I am intentionally reading slowly to grasp much of the content.
