Marketing is about telling a story. Because stories are easy to understand. It is through the story that we spread an idea. As stories are compelling, we couldn’t help but be drawn to them.
Consumers want stories. If you present facts and abstract information, they don’t even glance at your product. First of all, you as a marketer have to understand that consumers look for products that fulfill their wants.
Because needs are practical, wants are irrational and subjective. All you need to do is come up with a story. If you promote a product that doesn’t have a story, nothing happens. There won’t be any sales.
For a story that has to be good, your product should be true and trustworthy. If you deliver a different product than what you offered, you lose the consumer forever. Also, a good story promises something—fun, a shortcut, or a feeling.
Remember, a good story doesn’t teach anything new; instead, it agrees with the consumer’s worldview (values, rules, beliefs, bias). There are several neglected worldviews; you need to find one and present a story.
Marketing succeeds when enough people with similar worldviews come together and purchase your product.
