Cancer is a merciless disease that eats your body, slowly. It is a painful death if cancer spreads to other organs and matures. As cancer progresses, the will to live diminishes altogether. Among all the diseases, cancer stands first as the most evil one.
To put it simply, cancer is caused by the uncontrolled growth of a single cell. This growth is the result of mutations, changes in DNA that affect genes that encourage unlimited cell growth.
In a normal cell, genetic circuits oversee cell division and cell death. But in a cancer cell, these circuits are broken, accelerating the cell growth.
In two ways, a person can get cancer. One, as you have already said above, genetic changes in DNA fuel the growth of a cell; this accumulation of cell growth over time can be seen as a tumor or malignancy.
In a second way, foreign particles enter our body, causing cell growth. This is evident in people who smoke cigarettes. The harmful chemicals get stored in the lungs and activate cell growth. In the future, this will result in lung cancer.
One thing I find extremely fun is people who smoke proudly say that they didn’t get cancer though they have been smoking for several years. Truth is, you don’t know changes happening in your cells till a day you feel heaviness in your lungs and go for a check-up.
I have seen my aunt battling for life when cancer relapsed. She couldn’t lie down and sleep like us. She had difficulty in breathing. After a few months, she surrendered to cancer.
It is my sincere request to everyone: once a year, go for a full body checkup. Especially women. They have a high probability of getting breast cancer. I know, and I have seen how terrible and painful life will be when you are affected by cancer.
As they say, prevention is better than cure, but for diseases like cancer, prevention is the cure.
