📍Doing business is not as easy as one might think. Several things have to work in harmony to make things work. An entrepreneur who is just starting up or running a business has numerous things to do, like hiring, laying off, developing strategies for growth, etc. Because the business field is chaotic and involves complexities, it’s never easy for an entrepreneur to bear the load.
📍As the head of the company, he/she needs to take crucial decisions for growth and to make the company sustainable in the long run. But in times of adversities, there are no easy answers. If we take decisions in haste, there are possibilities that things may go wrong. In that situation, you are not only jeopardizing your company, but you are also jeopardizing the lives of people who work in your company. That’s why it’s of the utmost importance to take the right decisions.
📍 ‘The Hard Thing about Hard Things’ is the book that helps you to make critical decisions in times of difficulties. Ben Horowitz founded Opsware, which he later sold to Hewlett-Packard for 1.6 billion. In this book, he shares his experiences and insights as the CEO. The book is filled with information about hiring, recruiting, creating a good culture in the company, management, leadership, and so on. I definitely recommend reading it if you want a business or you currently have a business.
➡️My Takeaways from the Book:
⚡If you are going to eat shit, don’t nibble: Some decisions have to be taken very quickly; if you delay them, things will slowly slip out from your hand.
⚡Spend zero time on what you could have done, and devote all of your time to what you might do.
⚡ Hiring someone who has already done what you are trying to do can radically speed up your time to success.
⚡There are no shortcuts for knowledge, especially knowledge gained from personal experiences. Following conventional wisdom, relying on shortcuts can be worse than knowing nothing at all.
