Productivity doesn’t mean looking busy. People get confused with one another. We cram our schedules with endless work. One task will be replaced by another task. But still, we feel there is so much to do. This leads to a question: does productivity mean finishing up tasks on our to-do list?
I agree that most of our jobs demand completion of duties that are assigned to us by the employer. We engross ourselves in the activities that we rarely question about the quality and importance of the work we are doing. It is a sad state, but most appreciated in our modern economy.
We humans cannot escape from work. We have to do something to live and lead a life. But that doesn’t mean that we have to do meaningless and hectic work that burns us out and causes brain rot. We need to be focusing on doing what provides contentment, allows us to work at our own pace, and gives value to people.
Slow Productivity by Cal Newport has an interesting premise but is stretched a bit long. I personally enjoy stories in nonfiction books. They, however, shouldn’t overstay their welcome. It is precisely the problem I had with this book. But overall, an important read. It helps us to declutter unnecessary work and produce quality output. I recommend it.
