Taking a break from your job is considered suicidal these days. We are living in cutthroat times; we can be easily replaced by another person unless we are extremely talented in our jobs. Bouncing back after a break can be hard since competition is fierce and we don’t know whether we will get employed again. What to do then?

We have been hearing the news that so many got laid off from their jobs recently. Whether you are taking a break from the job or laid off, life seems uncertain, and you get paralyzed by the situation. Although a few have an idea of what they should do next, most couldn’t help themselves but ruminate endlessly.

More than ever, it is essential to collect ourselves after a break. We need to ask ourselves what we want to do next; we should tell our decision to our family, consider finances and how much money we might need during the break, plan how we can maintain a lifestyle, and most importantly, focus on our mental health.

Most people get into this regretful mode during the break, like, “I shouldn’t have quit the job; look how much my friends are earning.” We shouldn’t go down that path; if we do, there won’t be any peace for us. Whatever it is, we took the decision; we should stand by it.

Reboot is a good book that covers the topics of how a person should act during a break or when being laid off. Although it has useful information, I found some parts rather boring. The author has a classic template of telling a story and deriving the content out of it. Thus making it a beginner read. You can go for it if you want to take a break or were recently laid off.
