So much has been talked about hourglass or pear-shaped figures, but the author said that there are advantages to having these shapes. With a low waist-to-hip ratio, a woman can have successful pregnancies, as her pelvis gets wider, the big-brain infant could easily pass through, and there would be less risk of death for the mother.
The advantages don’t stop there; women with hourglass shapes have more chances of survival, are less likely to get type 2 diabetes, and can be energetic after the baby’s birth (because of fat disposals in butts and thighs), and a few more. But over the period, women’s bodies have varied, and preferences have remained the same.
Speaking of men’s preferences, they look for three things in a woman. Femininity, health, and fertility. She has to look like a woman (feminine traits), she has to be healthy (genes and shape), and finally, she has to be fertile to give birth. Although most men aren’t conscious of this analysis, it happens subconsciously.
But there is a problem. Women feel pressure to meet the ideal shape; they have been bombarded with images of curvy models and celebrities, and fairness cream advertisements are the cherry on top. It is also said that most women are unsatisfied with their bodies and how they look.
It is generally believed women maintain their shapes to impress men, although it is true there are two other things we don’t recognize. Women like to impress their fellow women and maintain self-esteem by looking good.

Never in the history of humankind have women been more dissatisfied with their bodies than now. They have been flooded with images of slender women who are at the top of the game, and most women feel being slender or having curves is the way to be desired by others.
But this put enormous pressure not only on their clothing but also on what they eat. Although they have to eat to be healthy, not much satisfies their appetite. If they overeat, thoughts of fatness keep popping up. Also, it has been surveyed that most women try to cover imperfections with clothing and other means.
It is generally believed that women aspire to be slender to impress men. Although it is true, there are two things usually neglected. Women also try to impress other women to feel relevant, and their self-esteem is derived from how they look.
But the former could be seen more in younger women. As women age, people care less about how they look and more about what they do. Most young women are taking the path of plastic surgeries and body-enhancement treatments to fit into the ‘desirable’ sphere.
I think it is high time for people to realize women are more than their sexuality. They have desires, ambitions, and interests and want to leave a mark on this world. Confining them to sexuality would leave a dent in the world. But the question is, from where did the ‘ideal’ image come?
