Courage Is Calling by Ryan Holiday

When we hear stories of courageous people, we get goosebumps. Stories are heroic; they make us wonder, ‘Are they humanly possible?’ We want to be perceived as courageous as well. But something stops us. Although we get the call, we don’t act upon it. It is as if a force is dragging us back.

We have this assumption that only certain individuals are heroic, and the rest simply admire them, or in some cases, we aspire to be like them. Being courageous is not something reserved for an isolated act. We can be courageous in day-to-day life by not being afraid to speak the truth, helping people, standing against the bully, and so on.

In a world that demands submissiveness and conformity, being courageous is rare and noble. I read the book as a part of the experiment, giving an overview of the author’s work. I will be reading 7 books of his, and I will share my detailed and in-depth analysis of his books and work.

I am reserving the criticism of the book for the overview. But if you are looking for instant motivation, you can go with it. (P.S.: My sister yesterday donated half of her hip-length hair to cancer patients. That’s courageous. She doesn’t know the people who will receive her hair but she did it out of empathy.)
