Come As You Are by Emily Nagoski

We all believe myths about sex, as it is a taboo subject; we generally avoid that topic in our conversations and act as if we know everything. But the problem arises when we think these sexual myths are true. Instead of questioning them, we believe we know the answers already.

Come As You Are is a remarkable book I read on sensuality. A better book than She Comes First, in terms of weight to the concepts and research studies. Though it is written for women, I found this book very useful, and it helped me to shatter some myths I believe.

In sociocentric societies, marriage is seen as a license to sex. Men don’t usually ask for consent; they force themselves on their wives, and there wouldn’t be a discussion on boundaries. Also, once men get their pleasure, it’s the end of the story. There would be no effort made to ask whether she had a good time or not.

I feel this book is very useful for men who come from socio-centric backgrounds; they ate too many myths as they grew up. At least the contents of the book help them understand what sensuality is and what they have been doing wrong.
