12 Rules for Life by Jordan B. Peterson

A book that I have been meaning to read for almost 3 years. I read the book recently, not fully by the way; I still have to read a few more chapters. As I was swayed by the positive reviews it got, I purchased it right away. Is it worth reading?

12 Rules for Life is a bit of a complex book written for the young generation. In one of his lectures, Jordan Peterson expressed that young people are avoiding hard books and choosing easy ones in universities. Maybe that’s why he had written this a little hard. But I like it this way.

Jordan Peterson is a controversial figure; he has attracted foes since his rise. Many of his teachings are criticized. But one thing I honestly like about him is he presents his thoughts and opinions clearly; whether they are right or wrong is a different issue.

I agree with Peterson that we should have rules ourselves; otherwise, we become slaves to our passions. One of my friends said that I should try alcohol at least once; it’s part of life. Of course, I disagreed.

If we have to try everything in this life, why stop at alcohol? Try cocaine, LSD, or weed, I replied. I believe most people these days are pursuing hedonistic pleasures. Seeking pleasure after pleasure endlessly. We need to take responsibility for ourselves and our bodies.

In my opinion, it’s one of the most compelling reads. You don’t necessarily need to agree on everything Peterson says. Read the book, and decide for yourself what needs to be taken and what has to be left doubtlessly.
