The Internet had boomed in the late ’90s. It is incredibly difficult to imagine our lives without the innovations and creations that happened in that era. Amazon, Google, Yahoo, PayPal, and many more sprout out, taking advantage of the rising internet. Among these, PayPal has an unconventional success story.
The Founders by Jimmy Soni is an engaging book about PayPal’s story, its founders, and where they are coming from. Immigrating to the USA, Max Levchin’s parents wanted him to find a stable job, but as he is enthusiastic about computers and coding, he left for Silicon Valley to start up. There he met Peter Thiel, a venture capitalist. Eventually, they would start Moneybeam Palm Pilots.
Parallel to these, Elon Musk had received 22 million after selling the company Zip2 that he co-founded, and he started another finance-related company, X.com. Musk and Max Levchin propelled themselves to make a change in this world. They believed what they were doing had significance; certainly, they had changed how we see the internet.
While reading the book, I felt inspired as if I was transported to the Internet era and knew what potential it has. I must say, the writing is racy; the author gives necessary information to understand what is happening and doesn’t include information that is not relevant to the topic. I like this book.
