Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates

Imagine an online community of a thousand men openly talking about the legalization of rape and advocating harassing, stalking, physically abusing, and violently murdering women. It may sound like something I am conjuring up. But it’s true.

Incels (or involuntary celibates) are a misogynistic community that spreads hatred towards women in any way that is possible. According to Incel members, all women are the same and hungry for sex but choose only attractive men and never glance at unattractive men.

They believe that women are the root of all problems in this world. To prevent the world (or prevent men specifically), they say women’s sex autonomy has to be removed and they have to be forced to become ‘baby’ factories. It’s no surprise that these misogynistic men do not consider women as humans but merely see them as sex objects.

Men who join in these manosphere communities like Incel are vulnerable, hopeless, lonely, and depressed. They haven’t had luck with women. They are looking for support and seeking answers. But as they stumbled upon these groups, they would be indoctrinated with the ideology that women are the cause of all problems. Soon, this hopelessness turns into anger and a desire to avenge.

The reason why men participate in these communities is that it gives them belonging and a sense of cohesion that they are lacking in their real lives. Chronic feelings of isolation are also another reason for signing up for Incels. After analyzing the posts, many men are crying for help, but they wouldn’t like to come out of the group, as it has become a place for seeking validation and recognition.

Most people wave their hand in the air if anyone brings up misogynistic groups like incels. They say incels have less or no offline impact and influence. But reality says otherwise. In the last 10 years, the Incel community has been responsible for 100 murders. It’s time to take it seriously and block the groups.
